This project began with the idea that human faces have two distinct halves, and that the left and right sides differ from one another in ways that aren’t always immediately obvious. It’s very uncommon to look at someone’s face and notice these subtle differences, even when we’re gazing into the mirror. I think some of this has to do with familiarity, but more with the fact that we always see a person’s entire face and never just half of it. I won’t go into the details of neural or optic organization that are truly responsible for how we view the world; it’s just too complex to be worthwhile in this particular post. I also won’t speak directly to how the features of the face can often be a physical manifestation of personality, other than to say that the influence of the left and right brain can be seen in the right or left sides of the face. I do think it is interesting though how we often think of our “better side” as being more photogenic.
Which is your better half?
Jim (in red) and Andy look like pairs of twins. Each half of the face has been mirrored.

I wanted to try some long exposures with a variable position light source to see what the effects might be. I tried to keep the positioning of the subjects and the path of the light source roughly the same for each of the photos, but I’m not sure why. I’d like to try a spinoff with more experimentation.

Welcome to the lovely blog called Sircular. The first aim of this thing here is to centralize the fractured blogs of Franco Bellini, and the second is to lay it on ya’.
